Sinulog Festival
Sinulog Festival is one of the most colorful festivals and larger in the Philippines with a rich history. The main festival is held annually on the third Sunday of January in the city Cebu to honor the Santo Niño or the Child Jesus, who was the patron saint of the whole province of Cebu (since in the Catholic faith Jesus is not a saint, but God). It is essentially a dance ritual which remembers the past Pagan Filipino people and their acceptance of Christianity.
The festival offers performances of the country’s most colorful pomp and pageantry: participants dressed in colorful dance to the rhythm of drums, trumpets and native gongs. The streets are often lined with vendors and pedestrians who want to attend a street dance. Smaller versions of the festival are also organized in different regions of the province, also to celebrate and honor the Santo Niño. There is also a Sinulog Kabataan SA, which takes out by young people of Cebu a week before the Grand Parade. For more information, please visit www.sinulog.ph.
